An Early Warning call from their LoJack equipped Chevrolet HHR alerted the owners with a middle of the night wake-up phone call that their vehicle had been stolen. Early Warning is a LoJack feature that calls, emails or pages the owner when their vehicle moves without their permission. LoJack Early Warning customers do not pay additional fees for this service.
After verifying that their locked vehicle had indeed been stolen from the driveway the owner’s made a prompt auto theft report to the Aurora Police Department.
It is law enforcement’s routine entry of the vehicle identification number (VIN) into the nationwide law enforcement stolen vehicle computer system (NCIC) that automatically activates the covert LoJack transponder. Owners and officers do not have to take any additional steps to turn-on LoJack, it is the only theft recovery system that is directly operated by law enforcement in the United States and this interface is seamless and instantaneous.
Just minutes later officers with the Broomfield, Arvada and Westminster Police Departments were picking up the silent homing signals from the stolen vehicle with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol cars.
Officers and dispatcher then query the LoJack “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC display screens with the NCIC. They in turn receive confirmation that the signals are coming from a vehicle that has been reported stolen and are given the full description of the vehicle. The LoJack PTC then provides officers with direct on-board directional and signal strength information which permits them to locate the stolen vehicle quickly and with an increased margin of safety for them.
The stolen vehicle was located by the Westminster Police Department over 25 miles from where it had been stolen.
This Chevrolet had been installed with LoJack & LoJack Early Warning at the owner’s request in December 2007.
