Hopefully, you’ll never need this type of information! However, it’s always good to have some ideas about what to do -- just in case the car you are driving ever takes a nose dive into a lake or river, or is ever caught up in a flash flood.
According to CBS News, 300 people die annually in submerged vehicles, and a vehicle goes into the water on average every 4 hours in this country.
Here’s a CBS video that is both vivid and instructive! Watch as a reporter goes through the process of getting out of a submerged vehicle in a controlled environment, with divers standing by (swimming by, actually.)

Below are links to four different articles on ehow.com on the topic of How to Escape a Sinking or Submerged Car.
Note: There is some disagreement – between the information in the video and in the articles -- about whether or how long the electric windows will work once the car starts to submerge. But, it’s important to keep the car’s engine running, so the electric system is on, and will hopefully work long enough to get the windows open.
